What is Aerial Pilates?

Hi there!  I'm Debbie, the Founder and Artistic Director of Air Control Pilates. ® ​ Let me take you on a personal journey through my world of Pilates and aerial arts.

Ever since 2003, I've been dedicated to teaching Pilates.  Helping people discover the incredible benefits it offers.  My passions for movement and expression continue to flow.  In 2008, I began a new adventure as a professional aerial artist.  

Combining my love for aerial arts with the principles of Pilates. I naturally started creating a unique syllabus that blends the two disciplines.  It's my utmost joy to share this fusion of aerial arts and Pilates with you.  

I've been teaching Aerial Pilates for over 10 years and I’m proud to say that I run education and classes for movement lovers and teachers all over the world.

What is Aerial Pilates?

Aerial Pilates, is a unique fusion of the Pilates method and aerial Arts. It combines the principles of Pilates with the use of a fabric hammock or sling suspended from the ceiling. The hammock supports and assists the body in various Pilates exercises, allowing for great range of motion, deep stretches, and added fun challenges.

In Aerial Pilates, participants use the hammock to perform a variety of exercises that use the powerhouse.   Working on inner strength, flexibility, balance, and overall body conditioning. The hammock provides support, allowing for modifications and variations of Pilates movements. It also adds an element of fun and playfulness to the workout.

Aerial Pilates can offer numerous benefits, including improving strength, working on flexibility, enhances body awareness and a sense of lightness in the body. It can be a great option for individuals looking to add variety to their Pilates practice or those who enjoy the aerial arts.

It's important to note that Aerial Pilates requires good instruction and supervision to ensure safety and good technique. If you're interested in trying Aerial Pilates, I recommend seeking out a qualified Aerial Pilates Teacher or studio that specialises in this form of Pilates. They can guide you through the exercises and provide the necessary support and guidance to help you get the most out of your Aerial Pilates experience.

 

How an aerial hammock can be beneficial for beginners in Pilates:

1. Support and Stability: Aerial hammocks provide support, making them an excellent tool for beginners. The hammock can assist in maintaining good alignment, challenge balance, and increase body awareness during Pilates exercises, helping beginners feel more supported and confident in their movements.

2. Enhanced Flexibility: Aerial hammocks allow for a great range of motion and deep stretches, which can be especially beneficial for beginners working on improving their flexibility. The hammock can provide gentle traction and support during stretching exercises, helping beginners safely explore their flexibility limits.
